Area of practice
Laser medicine.
Consultation-based laser treatments for selected vascular, pigmentary, and skin-rejuvenation concerns. Every treatment is preceded by an assessment of clinical suitability, expected outcomes, costs, and risks.
Laser treatments can address a range of skin concerns — some of them cosmetic, some of them medical. Before any treatment is recommended, Dr Waly will take time to assess the area of concern, review your medical and medication history, and discuss whether laser is the most appropriate option for you.
Laser results vary between individuals and typically depend on skin type, the nature of the concern, the number of sessions, and post-treatment care. Where a procedure is clinically appropriate, you will be provided with clear written information covering what is involved, expected outcomes, possible risks and side effects, recovery time, and the total cost.
Where laser is not the most appropriate option — or where the concern is better addressed by a dermatologist, plastic surgeon, or other specialist — Dr Waly will refer you to an appropriately qualified colleague.

What to expect
Consultation first, then a written plan.
- 01
Consultation
A separate consultation is required before any laser treatment. We will discuss your concerns, your medical history, relevant medications and skin type, your goals, and whether the proposed treatment is clinically suitable.
- 02
Written information & cooling-off period
You will be given written information about the proposed treatment, its benefits, risks, side effects, recovery, and total cost. For cosmetic indications, a minimum seven-day cooling-off period applies between the consultation and any treatment, in line with current Medical Board of Australia guidelines.
- 03
Treatment
If you choose to proceed and remain clinically suitable, the treatment is performed in the clinic. Informed consent is confirmed in writing before any procedure. Most laser treatments require more than one session for the intended result.
- 04
Review
A review appointment is offered to assess response to treatment and plan further sessions where indicated. You will be given clear instructions for post-treatment skin care, sun protection, and how to seek help if you experience an unexpected reaction.
Practice policy
How laser treatments are provided.
The standing policies below apply to every laser consultation and procedure offered. Where the indication is cosmetic, the policies also reflect the Medical Board of Australia’s Guidelines for registered medical practitioners who perform cosmetic medical and surgical procedures.
- 01 Consultation first
- No laser treatment is performed at the first visit. A separate consultation is required to assess clinical suitability, discuss risks and expected outcomes, and provide written information.
- 02 Cooling-off period (cosmetic indications)
- A minimum cooling-off period of seven days applies between the consultation and any laser procedure performed for cosmetic indications, in line with current Medical Board of Australia guidelines.
- 03 Informed consent
- Written informed consent is required before any laser procedure. Consent is freely given, and may be withdrawn at any time without affecting your ongoing care.
- 04 Suitability and right to decline
- Treatment will not be offered where it is not in your clinical interest. If the practice declines to perform a procedure, the reasons will be explained, and reasonable alternatives discussed.
- 05 Risks and variation in outcomes
- All laser procedures carry risks, including pain, redness, swelling, blistering, pigment change, scarring, and incomplete response. Results vary between individuals; no particular outcome can be guaranteed.
- 06 Number of sessions
- Most laser treatments require more than one session for the intended result. The expected number of sessions, the interval between them, and the total expected cost are discussed before any treatment is agreed.
- 07 Costs and Medicare
- Laser treatments performed for purely cosmetic indications are not eligible for a Medicare rebate. For selected medical indications (for example, certain vascular birthmarks), a Medicare rebate may apply — reception can advise. Fees are discussed and agreed in writing before any treatment.
- 08 Patients under 18
- Laser treatments performed for cosmetic indications are generally not appropriate for patients under 18 years of age. Where any consideration of treatment for a young person arises, additional safeguards apply — including a minimum seven-day cooling-off period, a separate evaluation by a registered psychologist, general practitioner, or psychiatrist independent of this practice, and full parental involvement.
- 09 Aftercare and adverse events
- Clear written aftercare instructions are provided after every laser treatment, including sun protection requirements. You will be told how to seek help if you experience an unexpected reaction. In a medical emergency call 000.
- 10 Advertising and confidentiality
- In line with AHPRA and TGA requirements, this practice does not publish patient testimonials, before-and-after imagery, or branded product names in the advertising of regulated health services. Your privacy is protected at all times.
